I’m not sure how far I’m in GW:EN at the moment. A quarter way through perhaps?
The expansion has thus far been relatively easy. The only trouble I have usually is trying to figure out the profession of new foes. I’ve embarrassed myself on several occasions by casting Backfire on what turned out to be a Ranger or a Warrior.
(It’s a good thing Heroes and henchmen don’t have their own blogs. The things they would say about me …)
There is, however, one quest that might get players all hot and bothered. I’ll not give away details but suffice to say the quest objective location features a boss who will undoubtedly cause intense pain (searing even) to an unprepared party.
It doesn’t help matters the quest designer decided to be a smartass and give the boss and his mob a ridiculously long patrol route and a larger than usual aggro radius.
I had a pretty good henchmen/Hero team with me but I still suffered several successive party wipes at this boss’s hands. I had a lot of trouble mainly because I had no idea what I was in for. If I had known what to expect, I would have simply gone with the Razah trap. Heading back to the nearest outpost to switch things around wasn’t really an option since the nearest outpost was a considerable distance away.
I did eventually manage to defeat the boss by gradually chipping away at his mob. This proved to be a slow and painful process as the entire party was suffering from the maximum death penalty but that SOB (er, Significantly Objectionable Boss) finally went down.
My sympathies and commiserations. :( I think I know exactly what you’re talking about.
I actually had two quests in that area when I decided to visit. Two quests, two bosses, much pain. :(
Depending on the quest you have active, there could be three bosses in that burning forest.
I did the second quest today and revisited that troublesome boss. It was much easier this time although, er, I did get wiped once.
